For those who are wondering about Lance and how he's doing, I found an article with a little bit about him and a cute picture from his last game!
Surging T-Yanks take series finale
By Ryan Lavner / Tampa Yankees
TAMPA -- Back in the rotation and seemingly back in form, Lance Pendleton propelled the Tampa Yankees back into contention in the Florida State League North standings.
Pendleton labored through five innings but earned the victory, and Austin Romine hit a go-ahead, two-run homer that gave the T-Yanks a 7-3 win over Sarasota on Wednesday night at Steinbrenner Field.
With the win, the Yankees took three of four from last-place Sarasota, gaining some much-needed momentum as they begin a four-game series at St. Lucie on Thursday.
And with the win, they also moved into fourth place in the FSL North standings, 1 ½ games behind second-place Clearwater.
"We're better than this," manager Luis Sojo said of his team's 26-30 record. "We had some high expectations out of spring training, and we didn't really show that in the first two months. Right now we're showing that."
And they're also showing some moxie.
Despite stranding an abundance of runners during the first three games of the series, the T-Yanks got worthwhile contributions from virtually everyone in the lineup on Wednesday. They also got a gritty effort from their starter, Pendleton, who was temporarily bumped from the rotation two weeks ago when Sergio Mitre made two rehab appearances for Tampa.
Pendleton allowed three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits in five innings, working in and out of trouble while earning his first victory since May 26.
"It wasn't the smoothest outing," Pendleton said. "In the bullpen I was keeping everything down, but I didn't carry that over into the game."
The T-Yanks jumped all over Reds right-hander Luis Montano, who entered Wednesday's start with a 6.08 ERA in 13 appearances (six starts) this season. They posted five runs and seven hits in the first four innings -- the big blow a two-out homer from Romine that clanked off the Tampa Tribune Deck in right center and gave the Yankees a 5-3 lead.
They added some insurance in the fifth off reliever Mike Bohana, when Jack Rye smoked a two-out double over the head of right fielder Carson Kainer, scoring Jose Gil and Wady Rufino.
"It's a good feeling when the guys start hitting," Pendleton said.
Humberto Sanchez, making his first appearance of the season for the T-Yanks, pitched a scoreless sixth inning, Noel Castillo didn't allow a hit in two innings, and Craig Heyer worked a perfect ninth.
Sarasota threatened to tie the game in the fifth inning, putting runners on first and third with one out. But Pendleton struck out Devin Mesoraco, and Romine caught Kainer stealing to complete an unlikely double play and end the inning.
Leadoff man Austin Krum singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games, Damon Sublett recorded three hits, and Romine and Gil each had two hits for the Yankees, who have now won five of their past six games.
Tampa will be without shortstop Walter Ibarra, who injured his hip in a home-plate collision on Monday, for at least a week.
